A Three-University Conspiracy? (Or eight billion supporting fossil fuels)

From MasterResource

By Robert Bradley Jr. — December 21, 2023

“This conspiracy theorist needs to check his simplistic, authoritarian, emotional views. Eight billion consumers desiring the most affordable, reliable, plentiful energies is the reason why fossil fuels are winning. The real enemy in terms of human betterment is the climate industrial complex, the industrial wind developers, the solar cronies, and EV/battery elites. Mid-course correction needed, Mr. Carlevale.”

Edmund Carlevale, self-described as Transdisciplinary Communications, MIT whistleblower, City-based Sustainability Strategies, with a following of 25,000 on social media, has a very simple explanation of the crisis behind the climate crisis. He offers a crude theory behind “the failed strategies of marching in the streets to end fossil fuels, the endless horror stories of the environmental horrors in our future, and the unending technical debunking of scams like #carboncapture.” It is a conspiracy theory that mangles cause-and-effect. Here it is:

This is why emissions are skyrocketing and Big Oil stocks are booming.

The culprit of the global program is embedded in “3 corrupt U.S. universities producing propaganda written by the global oil cartel and published under the brand of prestigious U.S. universities, which give politicians the cover they need to continue funding business as usual.”

Continuing:

This argument is the basis of the report I am submitting to the U.S. Department of Justice, requesting an investigation into the #fossilfuelfunding given to #MIT#Stanford, and #Columbia University over the past 20 years.

The report examines 5 pieces of evidence published by these three institutions and their key players:

1. “Big Oil vs. the World, Part Three: Delay” (the PBS edit, 2022).
2. “How to get investors to say “Yes!” to CCS” (Ernest Moniz, Sally Benson, et al, Feb. 23, 2023).
3. “Behind All the Talk, This Is What Big Oil Is Actually Doing” (Jason Bordoff, New York Times op-ed, August 7, 2023).
4. “The Future of Coal” (Ernest Moniz, John Deutch, et al., MIT Energy Initiative, started 2004-published 2007).
5. “The Future of Natural Gas” (Ernest Moniz et al., MIT Energy Initiative, 2011).

Unlike doctors who face lawsuits for malpractice and lawyers who can be disbarred, or lobbyists who must register as such, academics have no accountability for anything produced outside the peer-review process. Yet the institution’s reputation is automatically applied to anything so published.

It is this system which the global oil cartel has rigged to serve its interests, and it is this system, imho, which is presently destroying Earth….

Back to Reality ….

This conspiracy theorist needs to take a sabbatical to check his simplistic, authoritarian, emotional views. Eight billion consumers desiring the most affordable, reliable, plentiful energies is the reason why fossil fuels are winning. It gets back to the fundamental concept of energy density of the sun’s work over the ages (creating coal, oil, and gas) versus the very dilute flow of wind and solar.

In terms of human betterment, the real enemy is the climate industrial complex: the cronies behind wind, solar, and EV/batteries—cronies both government and private. A major mid-course correction is needed to get the causality right, but will Mr. Carlevale oblige?

I think Big Wind significantly outspends Big Oil in the propaganda war. For some reason billionaires are affected by AGW derangement syndrome – god complexes.
Interesting article in the Daily Telegraph the other day explaining the outcome of a zero fossil fuel economy – 6 billion dead. I now ask cimatastrophists why they want to kill billions.

Yeah, it looks to me like the oil companies roll over and play dead when it comes to the CO2 controversy. They barely even defend themselves.

It is really kind of pathetic.

The oil companies are not funding any defense of CO2 that I can see. They are accepting the CO2-is-bad narrative and are trying to keep their heads down as low as they can.

They are as bad as the climate change alarmists when it comes to believing in things that have never been established as facts, like the one where CO2 is the control knob of the Earth’s temperatures.

There is no evidence this is the case, yet these people believe in it.

It’s mass delusion across all sectors of society. It’s pretty amazing and is unique among human experience. We are in new territory mentally. For some people, anyway.

But the wheels are starting to come off this Net Zero wagon, and some people are starting to realize it. Maybe the CO2 Mass Delusion will dissipate in the not-too-distant future. I would say likely in the next few decades as the climate starts to cool, if history is any guide.

Have you seen one advertisement on your TV, demanding you support fossil fuels, and telling you how bad ruinables are? No? You have to lurk around websites where knowledgeable people actually discuss the CAGW lies, to find anyone suggesting we promote FF over ruinables, yes?
So, how does Big Oil spend that money, I wanna get me some, seeing as the climastrologists have at least ten full-time trolls er…trolling this site (and other like it, of course) and all of them seem to be earning enough never to leave the basement…
Big Oil, you hear me? I’ll work for half price!

“Have you seen one advertisement on your TV, demanding you support fossil fuels, and telling you how bad ruinables are?”

Excellent question. The answer is no. The oil companies are hiding, hoping to avoid critcism. Like I said above, the oil companies are as bad as the climate change alarmists in believing in things that have never been shown to be true. So they don’t question the claim that CO2 needs to be reduced.

There is no evidence that CO2 needs to be reduced, but the oil companies do not dispute this unsubstantiated claim of climate change alarmists.

The oil companies should say: “Where is the evidence that CO2 needs reduction? But they don’t do that. They go along with the hoax because it is the easiest path for them to follow right now.

And I suppose some of the oil company brass are stupid enough to believe in the hoax. We see a lot of smart people who are not very smart when it comes to CO2 and the Earth’s atmosphere. There’s no rule that says oil company executives can’t be in that group.

Bottom line: The Oil Companes do not defend themselves when it comes to Evil CO2. It’s ridiculous for climate alarmists to blame oil company propaganda for their failures to rein in CO2. The oil companies don’t put out any propaganda. They don’t put out anything.

A pathetic demonstration of cowardice and/or stupidity on the part of oil companies, imo.

It’s real easy: All you have to say is “Where’s the evidence?”

How hard is that? The beauty of asking that question is the other side, the climate alarmists, have NO answer, and it is easily demonstrated when you get “crickets” after asking the question.

But oil companies won’t even do this. They don’t want to fight this fight. They just want to concentrate on their business. While the world goes to hell around them.

Hmmm…some reason? Let’s see…what do billionaires like? Billionaires, billion. aires. Scratches head. Repeat the line. Billions of what? Billions of dollars maybe?

I wonder why poor people aren’t taking advantage of tax incentives and subsidies? Just a few hundred thousand in cash, a mill’ at most invested can turn to multiple millions.

Those poors should build a battery factory or a windmill factory or a solar panel…oh yeah no slavery allowed on this side of the Pacific…but they sure could build a windmill factory!

The Inflation Creation Act is pouring trillions into incentives for people with just a few million bucks to invest. Apparently the poor lack the knowledge of how to access these vital government programs? Maybe we need to hire some billionaires to develop a better communication program?

Governments are always striving for more transparency, so we cannot see their doings, and anyone that does see anything, will immediately be held accountable, for their “unproven allegations”.

Whenever you see accusations about ‘Big Oil’ engaging in disinformation campaigns, never lose sight of how one of the main hallmarks of far-left enviros is how they project what they themselves are actually guilty of doing as accusations of what others are doing.

Guys like this “Edmund Carlevale” are not merely enviro-activist conspiracy theorists in the abstract, seemingly spouting their drivel out-of-the-blue. His whole screed comes from his month-old LinkedIn post, and he turns out to be the recently hired “Head of Content Strategy” at Drilled Media. What’s “Drilled Media”? It’s an outfit run by the self-described ‘investigative journalist’ Amy Westervelt who is not an objective reporter in the least (as I illustrate in my tag category for her at my GelbspanFiles blog), she has every appearance in the world of being a useful idiot mouthpiece to regurgitate the false accusations hurled by ex-Greenpeacer Kert Davies, the guy she touts at her Drilled podcast as her “documents guy.” Who’s Kert Davies? He and his former Greenpeace / Ozone Action boss John Passacantando were exposed in recently-released FOIA emails out of the 2015-era NY AG’s office as being on the verge at that time of accusing Dr Willie Soon of being bribed by Exxon. What was Ozone Action? It was the place where the ‘fossil fuel money-funded skeptic climate scientists accusation first started receiving its ongoing media traction, with added help from the namesake of my GelbspanFiles blog. What’s the further connection that brings us back to this latest accuser Edmund Carlevale today? In the screed report he’s trying to send to the US Justice Department, the first item of evidence he offers is the “Big Oil vs. the World, Part Three: Delay” July 2022 BBC broadcast, which is actually nothing more than a subsequent repackaging of the April 2022 U.S. PBS Frontline report “The Power of Big Oil.” Who had featured roles in that 3-part series? John Passacantando and Kert Davies. In one dramatic scene with Passacantando, he’s watching an old video of the late Dr S Fred Singer, where Frontline deliberately desaturated the color out of that video. As I detailed in my dissection of the Frontline broadcast, that video copy comes from Kert Davies’ current website efforts to smear the credibility of skeptic climate scientists.

Edmund Carlevale doesn’t contribute an iota of new material to the diatribes about ‘fossil fuel-funded disinformation,’ he’s just the latest regurgitater of the same old totally false accusations where just like his predecessors, he never lifts a finger to see if their accusations have any merit.

You can bet these people are getting some of it.

We are experiencing an ongoing, well-funded, concentrated alarmist climate change propaganda campaign.

Every day there are numerous climate change alarm articles put out there.

Unfortunately, a lot of people are susceptible to propaganda, especially where it concerns a complicated subject like CO2 and the Earth’s climate, where most people have no experience and have to rely on others, and they are unable to sort out the true from the false.

PLUS:
The total lack of actual evidence that man’s CO2 is causing serious global warming.
Plus:
Just a few facts debunk the scam:
1-There is NOTHING UNUSUAL about our climate – it has been both warmer and cooler than now in the past BEFORE man emitted CO2
2- The IPCC says that several of the claimed weather effects of global warming are NOT supported by data.
3. Global warming started 200 years BEFORE man started releasing CO2
4. Promoters of the “climate crisis” are making TRILLIONS of dollars and Euros off of the climate scam.
5. NO ONE HAS EVER shown good evidence that man’s CO2 is causing serious global warming. (prove this wrong by posting actual evidence that man’s CO2 is causing serious global warming.)
6. Billionaires are planting many false or misleading climate stories in our media.

See DebunkingClimate.com for real evidence.

Curiously, the pandemic lock-down, saw no appreciable reduction in CO2, or reduction in global temperatures. Sure enough, the savvy readers here will cite such things as latency, and the miniscule contribution that mankind contributes to global CO2, and I agree. But, if it was the other way round, the alarmists would leap onto it as proof.

The lock downs had very little impact on the amount of CO2 that was being generated by man.
Yes, a few offices shut down, but in their place, thousands of homes were occupied 24/7 instead of just at nights and weekends.

Also, the peak lockdowns only lasted for a month or two. Not long enough to have much of an impact on the entire year’s output.

I drove across the country, US, during the lockdown. Almost no interstate traffic, diesel prices way lower, try finding a place to eat in some states, Michigan for example, and other indications of lower FF use was abundant.

RV parks wanted full price but closed their restrooms, laundry rooms and all common buildings, thus saving on those “energy” wasting spaces.

ALL fast food was closed to inside dining almost everywhere across the country. No need for employees to clear tables, clean restrooms, mop dining room floors, so fewer employees.

Some things will never get back to pre pandemic service levels. Ex. Costco has not brought the polish sausage back, of sourcrout or onions for the dogs.

What a boon to authoritarian government, training “the people”.

They learned a lot, and will try more things next time, and there will be a next time. Unless the US gets a POTUS and congress ready to do what Argentina’s new President is now doing.

Imagine eliminating 50% of the US government and turning welfare, Medicaid, food stamps, etc. to the states to be funded by the states only. Then people could really vote with their feet by leaving failing blue states for the ever more wealthy red states as the lazy beggars move to where the free money and drugs are. Then liberals will get the utopia they want, without the help of spending other peoples money.

Will the minutiae of climate science convert this listener from a climate agnostic or greenie to a rational thinker on the subject? Climate “science” has such a presence in academia because both the researchers involved and the general public have so little knowledge of the subject. Yes, the existential climate crisis is about money, but not for fossil fuel interests. It’s for a synthetic and complex array of solutions to a non-problem that require a total transfer of wealth from one portion of world society to another. It would mean that every element of humanity be concentrated on an hourly basis to climate stasis, each life under a compulsory devotion to the most all-encompassing religion imaginable.

Since actually bringing this to fruition is physically impossible, the parties having the greatest potential financial rewards will happily settle for a significant but manageable and ongoing commitment to at least the appearance of a meaningful solution. Academia will continue to receive grants that enable hiring of researchers and administrators and the construction of laboratories. Media will broadcast their discoveries. Government will continue to monitor and approve or dismiss the licensing of projects, Business will use the discoveries to produce their own solutions. In fact, this is already the case. Wind turbines continue to be erected. Solar arrays are being built. Plans are underway for CO2 and hydrogen pipelines. If at some future point it were to be found that climate change was inevitable regardless of human attempts to arrest it, remedial activity would continue because to stop it would be a disaster for an important but meaningless segment of the economy that involves four important constituencies.

It seems that the best approach to countering this madness is presently being employed. Bringing reality to the public, using the legal system to hamper permitting and financing for renewable projects, encouraging further nuclear development and constructing environmental policies targeting renewables. Each project must be individually opposed, just as their proponents have advanced them. An overall effort to eliminate them all is likely to fail.

There is manufactured concern for those living on Pacific islands being inundated by the rising seas. If this were actually a problem the economically sensible thing to do would be to move them to higher ground, much less expensive than transitioning the world from reliable fossil fuels to intermittent renewables.

Most people just want to know the bottom line as far as energy costs go. This has never been really made public. By bottom line I mean cost per KWH on a yearly basis. I would not include non proven ecological costs in the calculation. Renewable costs should include the cost of all backup power sources that are available but underutilized, net metering subsidies granted to solar owners, real estate/income tax breaks and any government funding. Fossil/nuclear costs should include any government funding and real estate/income tax breaks. Tax breaks should be defined as deductions that unique to the industry and and not just a recapture of capital expenses or depreciation.

In the case of Edmund Carlevale here, as I pointed out in my comment farther up to Richard Page, it’s not Carlevale’s education that’s the indicator of his motivations, it’s who he now works for: Amy Westervelt‘s propaganda podcast site “Drilled.”

Part funded by the Washington-based ‘Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development’ a similar thinking activist and climate lawfare group which is 2/3rds funded by grants from the US Environmental Protection Agency.

She is also part of the Covering Climate Now propaganda group, as well as collaberating with the Guardian and DeSmog, among others. Looks like she’s plugged into the Big Green network fairly deeply.

The folks on that side love to hurl the “guilt by association” accusation at us – what we say is automatically tainted by who our like-minded pals are. Fair’s fair, thus it is not illegal by any stretch to point out that at the end of my Part 2 dissection of the ham-handed Puerto Rico v Exxon lawsuit (showing its racketeering angle tracing back to Naomi Oreskes’ notorious La Jolla 2012 workshop on how to pursue such legal actions), I featured an audio link where [alleged investigative reporter] Westervelt ‘interviewed’ Naomi Oreskes, but it was at Oreskes’ own event and she first introduced Westervelt to the audience as “my good friend and colleague.” Then I wrapped up with another audio link from one of Westervelt’s podcast “news” reports in which she confessed to following the Puerto Rico case three years prior to when it was filed publicly and had accompanied the lead lawyer for the lawsuit to Puerto Rico back at that time.

Imagine the uproar from that side if Anthony Watts labeled a prominent Fox News reporter as “my good friend and colleague,” or if Marc Morano openly admitted that he had some kind of working association with the top person in Exxon’s attorneys defense team. “Massively dicey associations for Thee, but not for Me.” But yes, none of the folks on that side could do what they do without huge ca$h flows … which they don’t bother to tell anybody about. Me, I do what I do pretty much 99.9% on my own dime, draining what little I have in my savings account in the process.

“I don’t have a working Linkedin account so I couldn’t see his education.”

Sadly enough, education in toady’s world does not guarantee that you are a rational unbiased person. In fact the opposite might well be true.

Leftists in general have a hard time believing they can ever be wrong.
This gets compounded as they get degreed.

Since they can’t be wrong, they have to invent ever more fanciful conspiracies to explain why the world isn’t doing what the leftists are telling it to do.

It is very clear that Mr. Edmund Carlevale has lost his capacity for rational thought, his Transdisciplinary education obliterated any science education, if any, he may have had.

Or he’s being employed as a climate lawfare attack dog.

These universities are hotbeds of alarmism. They don’t support fossil fuels.

I suspect he’s had none of the former and a wee bit much of the latter, alternatively it’s intentional.
